Our language courses

We rely and build on conscious learning, because we are convinced that languages can not be learned only through reciting and repeating glossary, but through relating to the patterns we are familiar with. Hence we may soon discover that we already know a great deal more than we think in a new language. We simply relate our existing knowledge to the new one and use the old to understand the new.

German

At PharoDercks, both comparative and historical linguistics are tied into your language lessons. We structure all courses to your individual needs.We offer affordable single lessons, partner courses, intensive courses, conversation courses, language coaching as well as classically structured courses. These various course types are available for levels A1 – C1. Private lessons and language coaching are also available at the C2 level.Our group courses contain a maximum of 8 participants. These courses are also available from level A1 – B2

Norwegian

Norwegian courses are taught by a highly qualified teacher who is a native speaker. Foundation and group courses are offered for levels A1-B1. Intensive courses and courses designed to prepare you for moving to Norway are provided at all levels.At higher levels (B1, B2 and C1), we offer very affordable single lessons, partner courses, intensive courses, conversation courses, and classically structured courses. Language coaching is available at the C2 level.

French

With us, you get special lessons through a comparative and historical linguistic approach.Our group courses include a maximum of 8 participants. We provide language lessons for groups predominantly for the levels A1-B2.We offer affordable one-on-one courses, partner courses, intensive courses, conversation courses, and also classically structured courses. These are all availabe for levels A1-C1. Language coaching is available for the C2 level.

English

English courses at PharoDercks are practice-oriented.We offer foundation courses for levels A1-B1. These courses can be structured for private or professional use.In addition, we offer a business English course. These courses deal with negotiating, correspondence, in-house communication. Special themed intensive courses and workshops, as well as classically structured language courses, are also available for levels B1-C1. Individual language coaching is offered at the C2 level.

Our philosophy

We believe in elaborating on connections, similarities and systematic differences and contrasts between the languages we already know and the language we are learning. This is namely experiencing it and understanding its nature. This is a key to give a meaning to grammar, to make it interesting and to simplify it’s learning process, instead of memorizing an abstract structure. We call this method of studying languages a comparative and contrastive approach.

We do not promise that you will develop language skills for daily conversations within a few days or weeks as often promised elsewhere. We consider this concept an outdated approach. These simple steps in a foreign language might as well be taken care of by the benefits of today’s technology. To be honest, no one really needs to be fluent or advanced in a foreign language to get around.

For us it is the feeling of the language which matters. It is an art of living rather than Google Translate. A language has it’s own soul, temper and temperature. Ordering a beer can easily and efficiently be translated into hundreds of languages, but whether it will sound offensive or charming, is not that easy to depict. In order to be able to communicate these feelings, there needs to be more ; the intonation, the ductus, the nuances. Mit Freude! By comparing consciously, the skills we acquire are anchored more solidly into our memory, just because it now makes sense to us.
